CLEARWATER - After winning an expensive legal fight earlier this year, the owners of the Belleview Biltmore Resort got the go-ahead to build a 38-room “boutique hotel” and restaurant on the site of their run-down Cabana Club restaurant on Sand Key. But nothing happened.
CLEARWATER - Clearwater police identified a dead man floating in Intracoastal waters about a half mile south of the Memorial Causeway Bridge on Aug. 23, according to a police report.
CLEARWATER - Clearwater Police stepped up patrols as kids returned to school on Aug. 24. Most of the violations were from pedestrians, such as not crossing in the crosswalk. About half of these were committed by students and the others were by people in the area but were unrelated to the schools.
CLEARWATER - Clearwater resident and businessman, Vic Wickman, was recently named outstanding volunteer by Northwestern Mutual for his dedication to the YMCA of the Suncoast, and a $10,000 grant will be given to the organization on his behalf.
CLEARWATER - About 1,000 runners are expected to compete in the Morton Plant Mease Foundation Prostate Cancer Awareness Race at 7:30 a.m. in Clearwater on Saturday, Sept. 11. People are advised that certain streets will be affected from about 7 until 10 a.m.
